The Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development Signs on as the School Engagement Sponsor at SCNC 2019

OTTAWA, Ontario, Aug. 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC), a not-for-profit organization that actively promotes careers in skilled trades and technologies, is proud to announce that the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has partnered with Skills/Compétences Canada to encourage students to attend the 2019 Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC). The next Skills Canada National Competition will be held May 27 - 30, 2019, at the Halifax Exhibition Centre, marking the Competition’s 25 th anniversary.

The Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development will be the School Engagement Sponsor at SCNC 2019. Through this partnership, schools will be able to access funding so that teachers and students from elementary to senior high school will be able to attend and participate in the 2019 Skills Canada National Competition. SCNC is a great opportunity to promote careers in skilled trades and technology to youth in Canada and to engage them in interactive activities which showcase these exciting careers. In recognition of SCNC’s 25 th anniversary, there will be a variety of related activities as well as special guests and industry celebrities onsite at the Halifax Exhibition Centre.

“This event prepares the students of today, for the demands of tomorrow. It gives them the opportunity to experience a wide range of career options so they can make informed decisions about their future,” said Zach Churchill, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development. “Through this competition students will demonstrate the passion they have for a specific trade or technology, develop skills as critical thinkers and problem solvers, and be positive role models for other students who want to pursue a career in skilled trade or technology.” 

Through the commitment of its’ many sponsors and suppliers, Skills/Compétences Canada is able to engage Canada’s future workforce at SCNC. At the 25 th Skills Canada National Competition, over 550 secondary and post secondary students from across Canada will compete for the title of national champion in over 40 skilled trade and technology Skill Areas. Furthermore, approximately 7,500 student visitors will learn about these lucrative careers by participating in over 50 Try-A-Tradeâ and Technology activities.
