Code.Game Visits Silicon Valley

BOSTON, Aug. 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Code.Game hosted a kick-off event introducing its online educational platform on August 11th at the Loving Tree Academy in Fremont, California. More than one-hundred students and parents arrived at LTA, eager to learn about Code.Game’s exciting new software which teaches programming basics through an emphasis on project-based learning. The event began with inspirational words from two keynote speakers, Warren Dale and Yang Shao, and concluded with a group of excited young programmers coding computer animated universes.

Warren Dale, an Apple Distinguished Educator from Glendale, California, described the importance of project-based learning and innovative educational tools in the classroom. “Because Code.Game’s interface is powerful,” he explained, “it can be easily integrated into areas of regular instruction. Students are able to create a proof-of-learning and demonstrate their mastery of the content.” Dale believes that classroom activities should reflect the demands of the modern world. “When we provide opportunities for students to present what they have learned using twenty-first century tools, we begin to see amazing improvements in both test-scores and overall competency.”

Yang Shao , the board president for Fremont Unified School District, described the importance of technology in the classroom. He explained that many Silicon Valley schools still lack the necessary technology, despite being located in one of the most technologically advanced regions in the United States.  Shao emphasized the need for tools such as Code.Game in the classroom.

Loving Tree Academy quickly filled with smiles and laughter as members of the audience became engrossed in the game. Mothers and fathers hovered over the shoulders of students as each group wrangled with the program. Camila Ramos is the founder of KickStartCS , a Bay Area organization which offers personalized project based computer science education for children, facilitated the workshop and commented on its success. Ramos expressed her enthusiasm for Code.Game’s detailed instruction, “Code.Game goes beyond the introduction. Its interface is equipped with tools which actually teach kids how to code in JavaScript. The program allows users to view codeblocks in JS, and switch back and forth to encourage literacy. I haven’t seen anything this comprehensive on the market so far.”

Code.Game is unique in that its interface is equipped with multiple levels of difficulty for students of different skill sets; students can begin using pseudo-code and eventually advance to JavaScript. Feedback from teachers during the workshop offered a clear consensus: U.S. schools are desperately need a comprehensive, online teaching platform which successfully engages students in computational thinking and provides opportunities for advancement as their understanding of computer programming grows.

Code.Game is looking forward to hosting a number of free workshops in the Bay Area through 2018. The company, based in Shenzhen, China, is hoping to gain a better understanding of the U.S. market and the needs and desires of U.S. families and educators.
