Lithium is derived from hot waters of volcanic origin leaching it from volcanic rocks flanking salt lakes where it becomes concentrated by evaporation. The salt lakes have no outlet except for evaporation, and are called brine salars. Hydrothermal solutions emanating from regional faults in the volcanics often enrich the brine with lithium, boron, potassium and magnesium.
Marifil had an active lithium exploration program in 2009 that it is now reviving on the basis of its proprietary information gained in the past.
Marifil has one unexplored mine right (called a cateo), has applied for another and is in advanced negotiations for a purchase option on a third property which covers a portion of a salar currently being drilled by a competitor.
These property locations all have proximal volcanic lithium source formations. Marifil has a favorable geochemical data base supporting the acquisition of the properties and is moving forward to solidify a significant property portfolio for lithium in the Argentine puna within the renowned “Lithium Triangle”.
Marafil’s Lithium Experience
In 2009 Marifil had a lithium exploration program in Salta and Catamarca provinces.
Staked 12 properties covering 61,500 has.
Generated a large proprietary geologic and geochemical data base.
This information is being employed in resuming lithium exploration in the region.
