Igor Launches Nexos, the Industry’s First Smart Building Platform to Enable Agile IoT Buildings Using an Open Standard For Global Connectivity

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa, Aug. 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Igor, Inc. , a leading provider of Internet of Things (IoT) smart building technology, announced today the international launch of Nexos , a centralized IoT platform designed to turn static, legacy commercial properties into future-proofed and agile smart buildings. Unlike current IoT platforms, Nexos can interconnect and control disparate technologies and systems within a smart building or campus, which can include HVAC, PoE, safety, sensory and security products. The platform can also be installed in an existing building that is being retrofitted, with a competitive cost of ownership when energy savings, optimization of the space, and maintenance savings are considered.

Industry experts have identified the potential of an IoT revolution in the building space as one of the most disruptive technological revolutions to come. The IoT revolution is forecast to reach an estimated $67.5 billion in smart building technology investments by 2027 from a base of $15.1 billion in 2018 - an 18.1% CAGR., according to the “Intelligent Buildings Market Overview” 2018 report by Navigant Research, a leading U.S.-based research firm that follows the industry. Key to driving the adoption of intelligent building technology will be real-time data generation, analytics, operational and energy savings as well as occupant well-being and safety benefits.

However, developing a connective, agile platform that an IoT-enabled smart building can operate on has been the biggest challenge to the adoption of smart building technology. Current solutions in the marketplace lock data in silos, require duplicated software development, and prevent applications from easily interacting. “Established tools and practices stagnate the building industry.  Today's and tomorrow's opportunities require a new unifying agile technology platform,” said Dwight Stewart, Founder and CTO of Igor, Inc.

Steve L’Heureux, CEO of Igor Inc., agrees, “The reason we believe Igor is especially well positioned to win in the marketplace is that none of the established market leaders are strong technology or business innovators. Igor is delivering a truly innovative and disruptive solution to the commercial smart building market.”

How Nexos Works

Nexos is the plural of the Latin nexus , meaning multiple connections from one central, most important part. The IoT platform uses the security and reliability of structure cable technology as the backbone of its advanced technologies while retaining support and compatibility with other leading market protocols. For example, an Igor-enabled building using Nexos will enjoy the benefits of a PoE-based “Digital Ceiling” while also being able to leverage other communication protocols within certain spaces for user specific applications, such as Bluetooth technology for beaconing. With Nexos, any building owner or manager can transform their legacy building into a future-proof agile asset. IoT communication is made simple, using one platform to communicate and manage the multitude of different needs across the building. Nexos is user-friendly, providing easy-to-use dashboards with common-sense commands to link a wide range of systems and devices in one unifying platform. It also retains compatibility with other IoT protocols, such as Zigbee, WiFi, and Bluetooth, which can be layered on Igor’s central software system. By using a standard structured cabling solution, Nexos provides superior bandwidth, reliability, security, and scalability compared to alternative technologies, but retains flexibility for best meeting diverse user case scenarios.

Igor’s technology has been installed and implemented across North America, Europe, Australia, Asia, and South America. Educators are using the technology to power smarter, safer school environments. Senior living facilities are using the technology to improve resident quality of life and health. Hotels are using the technology to power a fully automated, smart building system to cut costs and improve customer satisfaction. Commercial buildings across the globe have embraced Igor’s technology as a simple way to reduce their carbon footprint and power highly efficient smart buildings for today and the future. Government facilities have installed Igor’s technology to reap the benefits of a cabled connected platform - security and reliability - while looking to future requirements.
