On Wednesday night Trump turned to Fox News. There he saw a spurious Tucker Carlson report pushing a "white nationalist conspiracy theory" that white farmers in South Africa are being persecuted and murdered in Zimbabwe-style land grabs. Trump tweeted his outrage and promised to consult the state department, whose own human rights report on South Africa had made no mention of the issue.
