They just need enough DD to either know when to buy in or sell for the flip or information with the potential to twist into a negative and create an negative emotional sentiment among shareholder.
They are very good at playing your emotions like a harp. They are also relentless.
If you're an OTC investor looking for those diamonds in the rough(as opposed to a trader) you have to be able to steel yourself against all of the crap people are going to pull to steal your money.
Good DD is one of the best way. Being aware of the tactics they use is another.
With those type of folks its all about making money, without having a moral compass. To that type, most OTC investors are sheep to be fleeced.
Knowledge is the best defense. Know your adversary and their tactics.
