OpsRamp Survey Finds That 68% of IT Decision-Makers Are Experimenting With AIOps

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- OpsRamp , the hybrid IT management platform for the modern enterprise, today announced the results of its survey on artificial intelligence for IT operations (or AIOps) and the applicability of AI and machine learning for modern digital and IT operations teams at the Gartner Catalyst Conference . Gartner defines AIOps 1 as platforms that “combine big data, AI/machine learning and other technologies to support all primary IT operations functions with proactive, personal and dynamic insight.

The survey was taken by 120 IT decision makers in companies of at least 500 employees and found that more than two-thirds (68%) of IT decision-makers had experimented with AIOps tools, and nearly three-quarters (73%) are taking advantage of AIOps capabilities to gain more meaningful insights related to system alerts.

According to the results, this cohort is looking to artificial intelligence and machine learning for scalable improvements in efficiency. IT decision-makers indicated three primary operational benefits to adopting AIOps technology:

  • Eliminate manual work: 74% of respondents wanted to use AIOps to automate tedious tasks.
  • Speed Mean-Time-To-Resolution: 66% of respondents indicated that AIOps would help improve root-cause analysis.
  • Anomaly Detection: 58% of respondents noted that AIOps would help extract signal from noise in a complex organization.

A majority (51%) said that up to half of all incidents were recurring. Meanwhile, 48% of respondents described their current alert volumes as too noisy, too high, or both. As for the tools themselves, IT decision-makers were split on which features offered the most value.

  • Ease: 63% of respondents felt that ease of deployment / orchestration was most important
  • Intelligence: 62% pointed to “knowledge capture”
  • Consumability: 53% felt that dashboards were the most important features in AIOps tools
  • Hybrid-Readiness: 40% cited the ability to use these tools in a hybrid cloud / on-premises environment

Among IT decision-makers who had not experimented with AIOps tools, cost (53%) was the primary reason, followed by those who hadn’t even considered it (32%).

“The survey data matches what we’re hearing from customers,” said Mahesh Ramachandran, VP of Product Management at OpsRamp. “Enterprise IT operations professionals are overwhelmed with alerts and they’re challenged to distinguish between legitimate signals and loud but harmless noise. We know from the survey data that even a relatively small reduction – up to 25% – in the number of alerts received by IT Operations teams would be considered a success in terms of a company’s AIOps strategy. With innovations like OpsRamp’s AIOps inference engine for smarter alert correlation, we think this is well within the bounds of being achievable.”

The report is available for download here.

OpsRamp is currently showcasing their AIOps capabilities at the Gartner Catalyst Conference in San Diego at booth 410 .
