Arcadis Teams with the City to Assess System and Make Recommendations Regarding Water Supply, Treatment, Quality and Operations
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 14, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Arcadis and the City of Columbus are teaming to update the city’s Comprehensive Water Master Plan. Once complete, the plan will provide a roadmap for addressing new infrastructure, redundancy measures and needed enhancements to the city’s water distribution system, while accounting for projected population growth and economic development.
In the next 30-plus years, Central Ohio is projected to see as many as one million new residents. In addition, Smart Columbus, the smart city initiative for the City of Columbus and the Columbus Region, has emerged as a primary driver for growth and change. With this additional growth comes the needs to address the region’s water supply.
Selected by the City to assist in the update, Arcadis will conduct a broad assessment of the entire system and develop recommendations to fully account for current and future demand beyond the current plan’s 2040 horizon. This includes:
- Population and planning projections, service area growth, raw water supply and demand.
- Use of efficiency measures and Smart Water solutions to source supply and treatment needs.
- Evaluation of size, treatment, transmission and redundancy alternatives for a potential fourth water treatment plant.
- Update the City’s drought management strategy.
“Columbus is rapidly becoming a destination for businesses to relocate and for families and individuals seeking a high quality of life,” said Jim Hays, project manager, Arcadis. “With this growth comes the need to safeguard a reliable, adequate and high-quality water supply for the citizens of Columbus. Arcadis is proud to continue its partnership with the city to provide a strategy for a secure water future.”
