RNC Chair: 'President Trump Is an Antidote to Republican Complacency'

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel is encouraged following Tuesday night's primaries and special elections, calling it "a great night for Republicans."
The high-profile race between Republican State Sen. Troy Balderson and Democrat Danny O’Connor for the vacant seat in Ohio's 12th Congressional District remains too close to call, but Balderson appears to hold a narrow lead and has claimed victory.
McDaniel credited President Trump -- who attended a rally for Balderson in Lewis Center, Ohio, over the weekend -- with helping push him over the finish line.
"The visit on Saturday was why we won," McDaniel said. "President Trump is an antidote to Republican complacency."

McDaniel explained that Trump can point to his achievements since he's been in office -- particularly the booming economy -- while all Democrats have is a message of "obstruct and resist."
"It's not a winning message," McDaniel stated.
Other Trump-endorsed candidates, including Josh Hawley, John James and Bill Schuette, won their respective primaries on Tuesday, while Trump-backed Kansas gubernatorial candidate Kris Kobach had a narrow lead in a race that was too close to call as of Wednesday morning.
Bill Hemmer pointed out, however, that turnout numbers for Republicans in recent elections appear to be down compared to 2016, which he suggested could mean trouble for the GOP in November's midterms.
McDaniel said comparing turnout in presidential elections to turnout in special elections is "apples and oranges."
"The bottom line is: We won last night, we won the majority of these specials," McDaniel said, pointing to Republican victories in Arizona, Montana and Georgia.
"I feel very good about where we are going into these midterms, especially with the cash advantage and the infrastructure advantage the RNC's put in place already."
