SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 07, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) Minneapolis , the Midwest’s largest medtech event, announces its brand-new programming including a specific Medtech Manufacturing conference track highlighting smart manufacturing applications in medical device manufacturing, and solutions for traditional medical device manufacturing challenges such as distributed supply chain, scale-up and speed to market.

MD&M Minneapolis takes place October 31 – November 1, 2018 at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, MN, and runs alongside Automation Technology Expo (ATX) Minneapolis, Design & Manufacturing Minneapolis, Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) Minneapolis, MINNPack, and PLASTEC Minneapolis. The Medtech Manufacturing track at the MD&M Conference will debut at this year’s show through various panel discussions, case studies and technical sessions emphasizing this ever-changing industry. This new track takes a deep dive into the final stages of medical device production before a new product hits the market, specifically incorporating technical learning in smart manufacturing technology such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of things (IoT), and robotics.

“Medical device production is constantly evolving as new technologies and techniques are brought to the forefront. The undeniable growth of smart manufacturing technologies used in medical device production is palpable, and an important industry trend that we wanted to highlight at MD&M Minneapolis,” said Amy Sklar, brand director, UBM. “Bringing game-changing professionals and their most innovative ideas to our event is the best way to stay ahead of the industry curve and provide the pinnacle of educational opportunities to our attendees.”

The new Medtech Manufacturing track supports the overarching theme of the MD&M Minneapolis conference, “From Concept-to-Market: Speeding Medtech Innovation Forward”. Paired with two other tracks focused on R&D/Product Development and Technical Solutions, the content illustrates the entire process of creating a medical device. Together, the three tracks will feature specific presentations on every aspect of the medical device production process, including new technologies, next-gen design, materials, prototyping, testing, quality control, supply chain efficiency, and the adaptive abilities of smart manufacturing technologies.

Notable Medtech Manufacturing Track sessions include:

Using Cross-Pollination to Drive Medtech Smart Manufacturing Industry leaders will discuss trends driving the adoption of smart manufacturing technology in medical device production and the challenges of optimizing production by using these technologies and techniques from other industries in a highly regulated industry with traditionally lower volume production runs.

Part Process Development and Validation for Multiple Machines In the medical device molding industry, manufacturing plastic parts in multiple machines requires expensive and time-consuming validations for each injection molding machine. Industry experts from the Medical OEM Consortium (MOEMC) will cover how a new methodology drives continuous improvements and sustains the required statistical control, while driving down costs.

Production Grade 3D Printing: Customizing Your Next Part 3D printing has evolved from being used primarily for prototypes, to being more heavily relied upon in production applications. In this session, the founder of Chromatic 3D Materials will delve into how it is possible to use high performance materials developed for all major 3D printing platforms, to go beyond prototyping to durable and functional manufactured parts.
