4sleddogs and RDY2ROCK have hit the nail on the head so to speak. Lets talk about just one type of malware that SFOR can protect us against, Keyloggers. Keylogger's malware has added the ability to be polymorphic. What does this mean? This malware has the ability to read your keystroke and thus knows when you are about to run an anti-virus program. Next, knowing that you are going run this program it can shut down or even self destruct. Of course if it self destructs, it can leave itself a way back in. But if it shuts down, what it does next can avoid this anti-virus program over and over again, Why? Because when it reboots, it has a new IP signature. Thus, even if the anti-virus program had included in its program the old signature, it would not recognize the new one until down the road when it found the new one and added to the list. Why else would the CEO of Symantec admit publicly that Anti-Virus is dead.
