Tesla owners, especially the early adopters, have been known to be quite active ambassadors of the brand and electric vehicles in general.
A bunch of UK owners took this philosophy to a new level this weekend by taking over the Silverstone Classic to give ‘over 10,000 test rides’ in order to showcase electric vehicles and promote the brand.
The Silverstone Classic is an annual event for car and racing enthusiasts held at the historic race circuit in Towcester, UK.
It’s particularly popular with petrolheads, but the Tesla Owners Club UK decided to give them a taste of electric driving.
According to Will Fealey, the President of the Tesla Owners Club UK, 76 Tesla owners showed up to give an insane number of test drives to attendees during the weekend.
He wrote to Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Twitter about the event:
Hi Elon Musk, this weekend 76 Tesla cars from the UK’s owners club gave up their weekend to drive ~10,000 (yes 10K) test drive experiences for the VIP, media, competitors and families visiting one of the largest ICE events in the world the Silverstone Classic.
The display was so impressive that other automakers didn’t believe it wasn’t organized by Tesla itself but an initiative by the owners:
Fealey added:
Staff from companies like Pagani, Aston Martin, BMW and Porsche had to pick up their jaws from the floor once they realized we were volunteers from the official UK owners club and not employed by Tesla.
The Tesla owners were then invited to do some parade laps on the circuit:
The Tesla demonstration was so well received that Fealey says that they have been approached to do the same at other events:
We’ve already been approached by other events to do all this again and judging by my initial feedback I’m going to have several thousand of our members interested for next years event. So thanks to the whole Tesla team for building the best cars but also thanks for listening to owners feedback to constantly improve the cars, I’m back in Fremont in October so would gladly sit with any of the teams to give reviewed feedback from all of our UK owners as there are still places to improve. Thanks Will.
