West Haven, Connecticut, July 12, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Color in foods and beverages creates excitement.  It also provides cues to the flavor.  Creative coloring is a simple tool that food and beverage manufacturers can use to design a product that stands out in a crowded marketplace.  Edible Glitter™ from Watson Inc. in West Haven, Conn. can supply food formulators, bakers, and culinary professionals that creative tool. Edible Glitter flakes are toppings, inclusions, and even color-change systems. They come in the full spectrum of colors. Watson’s Edible Glitter product line is fully edible and classified as a food product.  All ingredients comply with U.S.P., N.F., or F.C.C. Specifications.

Watson will be showcasing samples of sandwich cookies made with Edible Glitter TM as an inclusion in the cookie filling during the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Food Expo in Chicago.  The Expo will be held July 16 th through the 18 th and is one of the largest events in the industry; it brings together professionals from all segments of the food industry.

The cookie Watson will be showing at the IFT contains a multicolored blend of flakes in the filling of the cookie.  Watson can produce Edible Glitter TM flakes using FD&C, EU, or plant-based colors for clean label applications.

Edible Glitter TM flakes are made from gum Arabic.  Also called Gum Acacia, Gum Arabic is the dried, gummy exudate from stems and branches of trees of various species of the genus Acacia, family Leguminosae. It is used in many food applications, including beverages, frostings, dairy products, candies, and snack foods. The Acacia tree, which is native to semi-desert regions of sub-Saharan Africa, is of great economic importance to that region. The exudate is harvested by local farmers, and is widely recognized as an export success story.  It’s a growing business, as gum Arabic has been embraced by the food and beverage industry as a natural, clean-label ingredient.

Limited-edition foods create an urgency for consumers to purchase. Around the holidays, shoppers are less price-sensitive when purchasing items that may help them feel festive.  Food and beverage formulators can use Edible Glitter TM to create limited-edition and seasonal line extensions.  More information on Edible Glitter is available on a dedicated website: https://www.edibleglitter.com/
