BOCA RATON, Fla., July 11, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ADT Inc. (NYSE: ADT ), the leading provider of monitored security and interactive home and business automation solutions in the United States and Canada, celebrated a LifeSaver event today in southeast Missouri where a family survived the ‘silent killer’ due to their ADT security system and first responders.

In May, Danielle McFall was getting out of the shower in her Glenallen, Missouri home when a carbon monoxide detector activated and sent a signal to one of ADT’s monitoring centers in Knoxville, Tennessee. Receiving the alert was ADT dispatcher Tyler Sharpe, who first tried calling the McFall’s and then, with no answer, contacted 911. A short time later, first responders from the Woodland Fire Protection District arrived at the home where they detected large amounts of carbon monoxide.

“Since it was evening, we likely would’ve gone to bed and passed away had it not been for ADT and the fire department,” said McFall. “I’m also grateful for the installer who convinced me to upgrade the system with a C/O detector and suggested it be placed in the utility room where the leak occurred.”

The ADT security system was sold and installed by Defenders, the ADT Premier Provider. At today’s event, ADT’s John Lamke presented LifeSaver awards to Defenders employees Chad Hudson and Brian Franek, as well as Defenders CEO Jim Boyce. ADT’s Tammy Hanks and Tyler Sharpe were also recognized.

“It is humbling to know that a family is alive today because of my training and expertise,” said Sharpe. “I am proud to work for a company where we help save lives for a living.”

Additionally, Lamke awarded a $5,000 contribution to the Woodland Fire Protection District. Accepting was Chief Calvin Troxell.

“You can’t smell carbon monoxide, nor taste it, so really the only way to know it’s there is to have a detector,” said Troxell. “The best security system is one connected to a monitoring center.”

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, at least 300 people have died in the state from carbon monoxide since 1993. Nationwide, about 500 people die every year from the silent killer.
