— Executive leadership program for outstanding Latina professionals designed to create opportunities for women across sectors —
LOS ANGELES, July 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Grupo Salinas and Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE) are pleased to announce the HOPE Nonpartisan and Binational Public Service Fellowship, in partnership with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and Aspen Institute Mexico.
The HOPE Fellowship is an executive leadership program for outstanding Latina professionals who, through increased competence in national and global economic and security issues, are in a position to make urgent and long-lasting improvements in the lives of Latinas in the United States and Mexico.
“Latinas now represent 8.7% of the total U.S. population, with projections indicating sustained demographic growth in the coming decades,” said Helen Iris Torres, Executive Director and CEO of HOPE. “As Latinas continue to drive business creation and increase their buying power and educational attainment, we must ensure they have a seat at the table by assuming more national and international leadership roles.”
The fellowship’s goals are to:
- Immerse Fellows in the best research and analyses on critical national and global economic and security issues;
- Create relationships between Fellows and national and international leaders who will serve as resources in their future endeavors; and
- Strengthen Fellows’ policy ideas, strategic thinking, and leadership style to maximize impact as a national and global leader.
The HOPE Fellowship program will be comprised of 20 Fellows per year and Fellows may participate for up to three years, with the goal of 45-60 Latinas completing the program in the first three years. The first cohort will start in July 2018. Fellows will be selected through a competitive process following nomination by recognized leaders, mentors, national partners, or the HOPE National Advisory Group. To see a list of the Fellows, coaches and the national work group please visit the HOPE website ( https://bit.ly/2u0F7L0 ).
Grupo Salinas is proud to sponsor this innovating program and Chair HOPE’s National Work Group, providing guidance to the organization’s leaders as it works to grow at the national and international levels.
“At Grupo Salinas we value the importance of women in the workplace, promoting women’s leadership, empowerment and entrepreneurship,” said Ricardo Salinas, Chairman and Founder of Grupo Salinas. “Creating opportunities for women at every level, within the private, public and social sectors, increases economic growth.”
The fellowship program features on-site and off-site learning experiences and seminars. This year the group will host two seminars, one in Washington, D.C. in partnership with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and a second in Mexico City in partnership with Aspen Institute Mexico. The first seminar will include speeches from Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and former U.S Ambassador to Mexico, Roberta Jacobson. The women will also attend Ciudad de las Ideas , an International Festival of Brilliant Minds with the participation of over 60 speakers, from scientists to opinion leaders. The festival will take place from the 16th to the 18th of November 2018 in Puebla, Mexico ( www.ciudaddelasideas.com ).
“The Woodrow Wilson Center understands the value of women leaders as change agents,” mentioned Jane Harman, President of the Woodrow Wilson Center. “HOPE’s nonpartisan, binational program will enhance opportunities for women leaders across the United States and Mexico.”
“We are excited to partner with HOPE in creating an exceptional program for this group of women leaders and strengthen the ties between the United States and Mexico,” said Adalberto Palma, Executive Director of Aspen Institute Mexico. “Having a group of thought leaders around the table, brainstorming about subjects we deeply care about, has proven to be very valuable and we are looking forward to this conversations.”
