In a tweet, Trump said Pruitt "has done an outstanding job," and he named Pruitt's deputy, Andrew Wheeler, as acting administrator.
The resignation of Pruitt, once regarded as one of the most effective Cabinet members in advancing Trump's policies, came after months of damaging revelations about his practices, including a $50-a-night Capitol Hill room rental from the wife of a lobbyist with business before EPA, Pruitt's use of EPA resources to seek employment for his wife and his record spending on personal security.
