BEIJING, July 03, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Megvii announced Yin Qi has been named to MIT Technology Review ’s prestigious annual list of Innovators Under 35 as an entrepreneur last week. For over a decade, the global media company has recognized a list of exceptionally talented technologists whose work has great potential to transform the world.
Mr. Yin founded Megvii, short for megavision, with two college friends in 2011. Megvii owns the most advanced human face recognition technology, Face++. As an open platform for face recognition, Face++ has users from over 220 countries and regions. Face++ is the first Chinese company getting three championships in COCO and Places.
As the path to Megvii’s mission “Power Human with AI” gradually gets distinct, what it does now is empowering industries with AI such as security, retail, real estate, and other IoT industries. Megvii counts Uber, Alibaba, CITIC, OPPO and Xiaomi among its key clients.
Mr. Yin Qi said to MIT Technology Review that his AI journey should be divided into two steps—first, researching and developing the key technologies, and second, starting the business. “The most important driving force is the technology innovation for scientific entrepreneurs”, he said.
Earlier in his career, Yin Qi was a researcher and the director of a facial recognition project group at Microsoft Research Asia.
Mr. Yin graduated from Tsinghua University and earned a Master's degree in Computer Science from Columbia University.
