Not sure when you drove though, but IL and MN have

I find that the flow of traffic dictates speed in most areas in and around Chg. Any driver 'speed gunned' over that flow deserves to be 'culled from the herd'.
And of course there are speed traps in all areas.
I look at them the same way I do 'perjury traps'. You shouldn't get trapped.
There is a stretch along a cemetery followed by a sweeping curve near where I live; 30 mph limit, too often honored more in the breach than in the observance. I walk and bike the route often enough to see where motorcycle cops and traffic SUV's hide.
When I drive that stretch I stay in the right hand lane and watch the cars speed by in the left lane. The cops more often than not aren't there, but I prefer the too late tapping of speeding drivers' brake lights to inform me when they are.
No brake foot is faster than the speed gun.
My grin is wide as I pass by the flashing strobe lights behind the pulled over 'sacrificial lamb'.
I suspect that speed traps are rotationally deployed, allowing enough time between to instill false assurance among drivers. But once I see a stop more than once in the same spot, it's 'bookmarked' in my head.
Situational awareness is everything. Where would I be hiding if I was a cop? And if a sign tells me that there is aerial surveillance I believe it.
