The date of Senator Burr's response is telling. It is 5/1. On 5/31 McAfee had a PR whose headline read "Pentagon to install McAfee Software (with the SFOR shield) in $550 Million Deal". Bear in mind, as the highest elected official working on intelligence matters,he would have been aware of that solution to our DOD/DHS cybersecurity problem before McAfee proudly announced it. Now read the McAfee PR. "This agreement will provide McAfee brand name hardware, software and services for Department of Defense, US intelligence community, and Coast Guard activities worldwide". You'll recall the USCG falls under the Department of Homeland Security. If you read the USCG response Zpaul linked you will see they up channeled the SFOR shield info to their, US Cyber Command and the larger cyber community (DISA) for evaluation. DHS participates in DISA meetings. That is one reason why the USCG will is included. Lastly, go back to the Senator's letter where he writes "As your Senator serving as Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence" As a Mainer I am not a constituent of this NC Senator. However, he includes me as one since I'm a retired USAF Intel Officer and wrote him as one. He knew McAfee would replace Kapersky in also securing the US intelligence community as he wrote "I work daily to find ways in which we can better prepare our intelligence community to handle this threat". All I can say is, thank you Senator Burr for helping make this happen!
