As Long as You Are Useful to the Left,
Nothing You Do Will Be Held Against You'

Tucker Carlson reacted to what he called an unusually tense interview between an NBC News anchor and former President Bill Clinton.

Clinton became visibly agitated when journalist Craig Melvin asked about the Monica Lewinsky scandal and #MeToo movement against sexual harassment.

Carlson said that Clinton has become politically "irrelevant" in the eyes of the left, and therefore open to criticism after decades of silence.

While the Clintons "ran the Democratic Party," they "had license to do essentially whatever they wanted to do and the Democrats wouldn't criticize them," Carlson said.

He added that this was not the first time a scandal went without criticism from the left.

"You can drive off a bridge and kill a woman in a drunk driving accident and still remain the most admired Democratic senator," Carlson said of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.).

In 1969, while driving to catch a ferry to Edgartown, Mass., Kennedy made a wrong turn and failed to properly navigate a bridge lacking its guardrail, plunging into a pond and leading to the death of former R.F.K. aide Mary Jo Kopechne.

Carlson said that unlike Kennedy, Clinton appears to have worn out his "usefulness" in the Democratic Party and can therefore be subject to the same criticism they give to everyone else.

He said that the real lesson the interview teaches progressive leftists is not "don't abuse women" but instead "don't lose power."

"As long as you are useful to the left, nothing you do will be held against you," he said, mentioning Kennedy's Chappaquiddick incident.
