WAYNE, Pa., May 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters’ Tri-State Locals (Locals 158, 164, 167 and 173) teamed up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation as well as volunteers from EDA Contractors’ employees and fabrication shop and Roofers Union Local 30, to build a fully fabricated treehouse for Kaia Ettingoff, a 4-year old girl battling a rare autoimmune disease from Pennsylvania.
Construction was made possible thanks to the charitable donations of EDA Contractors, Tague Lumber and Steven Kempf Building Materials Co. For the project: EDA Contractors Inc. donated tools and treehouse materials; and Tague Lumber and Steven Kempf Building Materials Co. donated the treehouse lumber and several other resources to help make Kaia’s wish a reality.
According to their website : “The Make-A-Wish Foundation is comprised of tens of thousands of volunteers, donors and supporters who advance the national nonprofit organization's mission of granting the wishes of children diagnosed with critical illnesses.”
“I am extremely proud of our carpenters for taking an active role in such an important project for a remarkable organization, family and child,” said Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters’ Tri-State Regional Manager Robert Naughton. “Our carpenters are committed to using our skills and expertise to help improve our communities and help touch the lives of families in need.”
The treehouse, which sits atop a twelve-foot by twelve-foot wooden platform in trees in the family's backyard, is equipped with: two plate-glass windows; a wooden door; inside walls lined with blackboard for Kaia to draw; a rope bridge; a fully-functioning zip line; a sliding board; and a rock wall. The eight-foot wide by seven-foot high playhouse was created with sturdy, sheathed plywood.
“When Make-A-Wish reached out to EDA Contractors Inc. and asked if we would be interested in helping grant this wish, I was truly excited to lend a hand and help the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters build this treehouse,” said EDA Contractors project superintendent Tony Melle. “We jumped at the chance to be involved.”
