Reply from Senator Richard Burr, Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence I got today addresses this. "As you mentioned in your letter, last year about 4,000 NATO troops were targets of a cyber attack by Russia. This greatly concerns me. I recognize the gravity of the ongoing threat of cyber warfare and work daily to find ways in which we can better prepare our intelligence community to handle this threat. Given your concerns, you may be interested to know about the DOD elevation of CYBERCOM within the department out from under the authority of STRATCOM. The elevation of CYBERCOM will help DOD deal with cyber threats that have evolved and technologically advanced". Yes, the POTUS eliminated that one WH position. He also approved the standing up of US CYBERCOM as a seperate command. That is a whole lot more signifigant than the elimination of one job in the West Wing!
