CHALK RIVER, Ontario, May 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), Canada’s premier nuclear science and technology organization, is pleased to announce that it has hired over 100 new scientists, engineers and other technical professionals from around the world as part of its recruitment campaign to foster the continued growth of its nuclear science and technology products and services. The hiring is to support CNL’s Long-Term Strategy, an ambitious 10-year plan that will position the organization as a global leader in nuclear science and technology, and a period during which CNL’s research staffing is projected to grow by more than 20 per cent.
CNL intends to develop a variety of new products and services as part of its transformation, including the deployment of small modular reactors, the pursuit of commercial opportunities in targeted alpha therapies, and the use of hydrogen to decarbonise Canada’s transportation sector. In order to prepare for this organizational transition, CNL established a human resources strategy last year to ensure that it has the high-calibre workforce needed to grow and expand CNL’s science and technology programs.

The permanent shut down of NRU created an opportunity to retain the talent CNL already has, and to redeploy hundreds of staff into new positions within the company in support of its renewed science and research programs. Many vacancies, particularly in CNL’s research programs, remain. In response, CNL refocused its recruitment efforts to attract high-quality talent globally to augment its existing team.
With the recent hiring of over 100 new research personnel, and ongoing interactions with talented candidates, CNL’s effort has proven very successful. The new additions to CNL’s research programs include international expertise in a variety of disciplines, including nuclear physics, fuels and materials for light water reactors, hydrogeology, cyber security, metallography, molecular and cell biology, data science, and high temperature heat transfer engineering.
