Dr. Shoukri is a world-renowned researcher specializing in thermal-fluid science and has published over 120 scholarly articles in the field. He began his career in academia at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, serving in many executive administrative positions including the Dean of Engineering. Under his guidance, the faculty enjoyed significant growth leading McMaster to become one of the foremost engineering schools in Canada.
Dr. Shoukri recently completed his decade-long tenure as the seventh President and Vice-Chancellor of York University. As an academic leader, he guided York’s transformation into a comprehensive research-intensive university as well as spearheading hundreds of millions of dollars of capital development projects.
Dr. Shoukri is a champion of innovation having led the development of the McMaster Innovation Park and was a member of the founding Board of the Ontario Centers of Excellence (OCE Inc.), an organization that focuses on university-industry research and the use of university research to support commercialization and economic development. He served on numerous boards and was a member of the Ontario Research and Innovation Council that advised the Ontario Government on research and economic development.
In 2013, for his contributions to the flourishing of Ontario’s academic institutions as both an engineer and an administrator, Dr. Shoukri was named a Member of the Order of Canada, the Order of Ontario, and awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal.
