All gets down to Supply and Demand....it is what it is & it's all largely relative. Solar is not a drain on the economy, it actually contributes to it, creating gainful employment for many 1,000's of Californians, which helps them afford 'their' homes & reduces the energy costs of their customers homes...it's become largely self-sustainable. Aside from this new solar mandate for new homes, retrofit installations are carried out in large numbers every single day, likely more-so than any other state. There are over 150 solar contractors here in San Diego county alone.
Doom & gloomers enjoy knocking CA, but despite rumors to the contrary, people want to move & live here...the CA gold rush continues, albeit in ever-changing forms. And as evidence of that, CA just moved up another notch in the worlds largest economies, having previously surpassed the entire country of Russia & now displacing England @ #5. This is by no means meant to be an invitation for the whole world to move here, that's not possible, but it does provide some reasoning as to the causes of housing shortages. For my part as a building contractor & construction manager, I personally helped build 1000's of residential units myself & now continue to be involved in the retrofit solar arena...no apologies needed, we do what we can.
