SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Real-Time Innovations (RTI) , the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) connectivity company, today announced the release of the second eBook authored by Dr. Stan Schneider, CEO at RTI, titled, “The Rise of the Robot Overlords: Clarifying the Industrial IoT.”
As Schneider describes in the eBook, the smart machine era will be the most disruptive in history. Medical treatment systems, the power grid, manufacturing lines, process control and transportation systems work today the same way they did 20 years ago. But in the next few years, engineers in every industry will find a way to leverage the incredible change in compute power and networking. This transformation could serve as a potential risk to everyone and everything that do not respond.
Schneider examines the key architectures and applications of the Industrial IoT. Readers will learn the economic implications, challenges and opportunities that surround the rise in fast computing and networking on smart machines. The eBook also includes a practical selection guide for what the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) defined as the most popular IIoT connectivity technologies, differentiating between Data Distribution Service™(DDS), OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA), Message Queuing Telemetric Transport (MQTT), Representational State Transfer Hypertext Transfer Protocol (RESTful HTTP), One Machine-to-Machine (M2M) and Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP). Schneider then delves into an analysis on the theoretical basis for data-centric and device-centric system integration, scalable cloud-to-edge system design and security. The eBook concludes with a deeper look at the connectivity technology required for today’s most imminent smart machines: autonomous vehicles.
The eBook contains the following sections:
- Introduction: Economic Impact
- Software is Eating the World
- What is the Industrial IoT, Anyway?
- A Practical Guide to IIoT Connectivity
- Theory: Systems, Software and Integration
- Why a Databus is so Unique
- The IIoT Security Challenge
- A Deeper Example: Autonomous Vehicles (Carbots)
Stan Schneider is CEO of RTI. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) Steering Committee. Until his election as Vice Chair, Schneider chaired the IIC testbed subcommittee. Schneider serves on the advisory board for Industry’s largest event, the IoT Solutions World Congress. Schneider completed a PhD in EE/CS at Stanford with a thesis on autonomous robotics at the Stanford Aerospace Robotics Laboratory.
