Received an email showing a sign from a park in Canada warning hikers that black bears and grizzly bears were in the area and advised that hikers wear bells to warn the bears of their coming and to have pepper spray handy to ward them off.
It then went on to say that you should be able to tell the difference between the droppings of the different bears as the black bear droppings were smaller and usually had small berries and squirrel fur whereas the grizzly shit normally contained small bells and reeked of pepper.
Had a friend, a big hunter worldwide, who wounded a grizzly and didn't wait long enough to make sure it was dead and when he and the guide were headed up the steep, narrow game trail it came thundering down so that they both only had time to shoot from the hip and when it dropped and stopped sliding the head was resting on his foot. He said the length from the back of his scope to the tip of his rifle was over 30" and that didn't even span the width of the bear's head. Of course, we had to swear never to tell his wife that story and she still has no idea of it to this day.
