CBP To Test Blockchain Technology In 2018
According to international trade law firm Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is planning to test blockchain technology in three different areas this year.
The first test will apply blockchain technology for certifications of origin that are employed to qualify goods for preferential treatment under NAFTA and CAFTA-DR. Another will apply blockchain technology related to the automation of carnets, while a third test under consideration would involve NOAA form 370, the fisheries certificate of origin. This form is used to identify dolphin-safe status of imported frozen and processed tuna products.
The firm added that CBP is seeking participants to collaborate with on developing proof of concept/pilot test objectives.
