Russia Tests 'Satan' Ballistic Missile After Expelling U.S. Diplomats

< >

A new video released by the Russia Ministry of Defense shows the test launch of a ballistic missile called "Satan 2," a test Russian officials say went "perfectly."

The liquid fuel, intercontinental missile known as "Sarmat" is the same one that Russian President Vladimir Putin said in March could reach anywhere in the world.

According to Putin, Sarmat weighs 200 metric tons and has a higher range than Satan 1.

The test is highly provocative, given the growing tensions with the United States. It comes just days after the United States tested its own ICBM off the coast of Southern California, and after Poland agreed to buy $4.7 billion of patriot missiles from America.

Despite the launch, the Kremlin says Putin is still keen to having a summit with President Trump.

Earlier this week, Russia shut down the U.S. consulate in St. Petersburg, kicking out 150 diplomats, including 60 Americans. The move came after the U.S. expelled 60 Russian diplomats - accused of being undeclared spies - in a show of solidarity with allies after the poisoning of a former Russian spy in England.
