Trump's Tough Policy on Russia Stands in Stark Contrast With Obama's

< >

In his opening monologue Thursday night, Sean Hannity reacted to the Trump administration's decision to sanction 19 Russian individuals and five Russian entities for allegedly interfering in the 2016 election and engaging in cyberattacks.

"It doesn't exactly fit in the narrative that Democrats and members of the destroy-Trump media have been pushing for months. Now, the Trump administration, they're cracking down on Russia in a massive way," Hannity said.

The sanctions, which were announced Thursday by the Department of the Treasury, mean all property of the individuals and entities subject to U.S. jurisdiction is blocked. Among those being sanctioned are the 13 Russians who were indicted in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe last month.

The sanctions come as leaders of the U.S., Germany and France have joined with the United Kingdom in accusing Russia of being behind a recent nerve agent attack on an ex-Russian spy.

Hannity said that President Trump's tough stance on Russia stands in stark contrast with that of former President Obama.

He said not only did Obama fail to act when Russia engaged in a "hostile takeover" of Crimea and aided Syrian dictator Bashar al Assad, but he also ignored warnings from the intelligence community and lawmakers like Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) about the threat of Moscow meddling in U.S. elections.

He noted that Obama in October 2016 infamously told Trump to "stop whining" about the election potentially being rigged.

"So let's get this straight," Hannity said. "There's Obama, weak on Russia's hostile takeover of Crimea, weak on Russia's support for Assad using gas on his own people, weak on Russia's election hacking, warned two years before the 2016 election, and the media's only focused on Trump's ties to Russia? Mr. Obama, where were you? Why didn't you act?"
