No offence Badmutha, you have the right terminology in Orbital Mechanics, But your caculations are off.
Having been part of the team in Range Safety, I've launch every Space Shuttle and Rocket from The Cape since 1992 - unless I was on Vacation.
There are various Launch Windows available in 2018 for Mars Missions between May 5th - June 18, 2018.
We are launching the Mars Insight Mission next year, not from my Rocket Garden here in Florida, but from Vandenberg AFB in California, which ever launch date/ time is selected, it is scheduled to arrive at Mars on Nov. 26th 2018.
Just a touch on History, our first Mission to Mars was July 4, 1997 the Mars Pathfinder Mission.
Curiosity has a mass of 1,982 lb including 180 lb of scientific instruments. The rover is 9.5 ft long by 8.9 ft wide by 7.2 ft in height.
