The 'advice' from the lawyer may be decades old and not even relevant to YOUR specific question. In other words, the response is what many business owners call Factual BS. One can not contest that a lawyer wishes to be included in ANY dialog peculiar to a business. The time duration is irrelevant; once a lawyer says "This is the best advice I can and will give you concerning questions about your business: ALWAYS CHECK WITH A LAWYER BEFORE YOU RESPOND.
Most likely you were handed a decades old load of Factual BS. It was bought and paid for long before the issue you questioned was even in place with the company.
