Pete, that is an utter lie told by a basher. If Prurisol is effective for even 40% of people, that makes the drug approvable. Some time ago I posted about a drug that worked for about 35% of people and was approved by the FDA.
Prurisol thus far appears FAR safer than Otezla and the other drugs. Doctors prescribe the least harmful drug FIRST -- then, if it doesn't work for an individual, they try increasingly more dangerous drugs.
So Prurisol easily could become the drug that everyone tries first for psoriasis, and then if it didn't work, they'd go on to the more dangerous ones.
To summarize the worst case scenario:
Let's pretend Prurisol only works for 40-45% of people (unlikely to be that low).
It's still approvable, particularly because of its MUCH BETTER safety profile.
It's also going to be a lot cheaper and easier to manufacture than the biologics are.
Ideally there are several drugs that work on various diseases, as some people respond to one and not another. There is NO truth in the idea that Prurisol would have trouble with approval even if it were not as efficacious as existing approved drugs -- which have much worse side effects that Prurisol (thus far).
