We had one bad winter some years back and the only open ground was a walkway between the house and my shop. I dumped a pound of seed corn and the deer came. Then more came then some nights there were twenty five out there. Spring came and there wasn't a flower or shrub that wasn't being chewed off. Ten years we have been on the migratory path of winter deer. Just recently have they unlearned and moved on. Feeding birds creates an entire false ecosystem with it's own problems.
