Very few of my contemporaries did not think in terms of patriotism during the 'early years', '64-'66 of the intervention.
And don't tell me that you were as yet sucking down conspiracy theories at the age of 18 or 19.
Point being most who enlisted did feel that it was patriotic. Growing up in the '50's with the massive rearming and the 'communist scare' pretty much locked us into the 'we're the good guys' and hey, look at those 'dominoes falling' on that documentary, stance.
There were honorable ways to avoid service. Faking a medical condition was not one of them.
Trump used a bogus bone spur claim to secure his deferments.
Then he makes an absurd assertion that his sexual adventures were comparable, if not more dangerous than, service in Vietnam.
Plenty of Vietnam veterans were outraged at that claim.
That and his belligerent big mouth assure him membership in the chicken hawk, 'all hat and no cattle', 'do as I say not as I do' club.
