I know that political opinions on this board arenâ

I know that political opinions on this board aren’t always welcome by some but I dear to make the following statement about the idea of selected people being allowed to carry guns in public places. It seems that the rights of the evil people of the world are protected more than the average American citizen. Since criminals don’t abide by the law and always have easy access to illegal guns while honest, good Americans, especially in certain large cities like New York, find it difficult to own a gun and impossible to carry a concealed weapon. Knowing this, the criminals and terrorist feel safe in doing their evil deeds. If they didn’t know who had a legal weapon isn’t it likely that crime and terrorism would fall? Isn’t it likely that fewer children in our schools and people in public places would be slaughtered? Of course, to protect us from creating a ‘Wild West’, permits would only be given to citizens with acceptable backgrounds and possibly require passing psychological testing and even require training similar to that which the Police get. I have owned handguns for over 60 years and thankfully have never had to consider using them for anything but target practice. In addition, I would only use them to protect life, not property, because property can be replaced.
