As far as amyloid plaques, we know that a lot of the experimental drugs that try to dissolve the plaques make the disease WORSE. Those of us who do not believe the plaques are the CAUSE of the disease often repeat this simile to get the point across to people --
if someone has a bad cut, the body tries to fix it by stopping the bleeding by forming a clot which becomes a scab. You wouldn't try to heal the cut by ripping the scab off.
So if the amyloid plaque is the brain's attempt to stop the damage, why would dissolving the amyloid plaque help the Alzheimer's patient?
