One of the firms leading the race to bring Elon Musk’s plan for high-speed Hyperloop transportation to life has signed its first interstate agreement, in a major step toward building such a system. An artist's rendering of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies' pod system is pictured
Hyperloop Transportation Technologies has signed a deal with the North Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency and Illinois’ Department of Transportation to conduct a feasibility study on a network connecting Cleveland to Chicago. The plan could theoretically cut the five-hour, 313 mile trip down to just 28 minutes
HTT will be holding an event at the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland later this month to reveal additional details on the plan.
‘We came here because places like Cleveland, Chicago, and Pittsburgh have the manufacturing, the raw materials, and the talented, hard working people in order to make it happen,’ said Andrea La Mendola, Chief Global Operations Officer of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies.
‘We can source everything from this area. This is a place where you make big things.’
Elon Musk is also eyeing Chicago as one of his future Hyperloop hubs.
Last fall, the Boring Company CEO tweeted: 'The Boring Company will compete to fund, build & operate a high-speed Loop connecting Chicago O'Hare Airport to downtown.'
