The Real 48 Per Cent’ Launch Coordinated
Death Threat Campaign Against Brexit Donors
< >
Reacting to the threats, former Tory Minister Priti Patel wrote on social media:
“These endless, unacceptable threats [and] abuse are uncivilized [and] wrong. I can only conclude that they resort to personal attacks because they have lost the political argument.”
Despite the mainstream media narrative that Brexit is being pushed by trolls and racists, there are many examples of aggressive Remain supporters.
Just this week, police confirmed they are investigating an alleged death threat sent in a letter to an 80-year-old Brexit supporter.
“If you attempt to take away part of someone’s identity. There are consequences,” it read. “We have watched, you have stoked the fires of Brexit and led us to this moment. You can no longer be tolerated. We are coming for you. We are going to kill you.”
After Tory MP Zac Goldsmith shared the message on social media, a BBC radio presenter responded by suggesting the threat should have been sent to the MP. The BBC later fired him.
A mystery anti-Brexit group is conducting a coordinated campaign of intimidation, sending out death threats to many of the most prominent backers of the vote to leave the European Union (EU).
The group, calling itself “The Real 48 Per Cent”, has sent out identical printed letters in handwritten envelops to major Brexit donors.
“You have stoked the fires of Brexit and led us to this moment. You can no longer be tolerated. We are coming for you. We are going to kill you,” the chilling notes read, Guido reports.
“We were born in Britain. We live in the UK. We are European,” the authors add.
According to the website, the threats have been received by at least six people who have given money to pro-Brexit causes, and their name are thought to have been taken from this Business Insider article titled: The 21 biggest donors to the Brexit campaign.
Three of the recipients have reported the matter to the police, and others are expected to come forward.
