Daniel Roebuck's Film 'Getting Grace': Three Lehigh Valley Premieres on March 3
The Morning Call
January 31, 2018
Those waiting to see “Getting Grace,” Bethlehem actor Daniel Roebuck’s movie filmed in the Lehigh Valley, won’t have to wait much longer.
Three sites in the Valley will be part of a one-day premiere event on March 3, celebrating the opening of what’s been described as the actor’s “love letter to the Lehigh Valley.”
The movie will be shown at two Bethlehem locations — the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas and Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts — and at The Roxy Theatre in Northampton, Roebuck said at a press conference Tuesday at the charter school in Bethlehem.
Those who attend one of the Lehigh Valley premieres will have the chance to mingle with the stars, take photos with cast members and hear performances by local artists whose music is part of the film’s soundtrack.
Think of the event as a little taste of Hollywood right here in the Valley.
The film is scheduled for a national release on March 23. Distributor Hannover House will bring the movie to at least 50 theaters in major cities including New York, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Dallas, Roebuck said Tuesday.
After that, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will distribute the film through video on demand, Amazon and Netflix, he said.
Roebuck is a character actor who has been in dozens of TV shows including “Lost” and “The Man in the High Castle” and movies such as “The Fugitive.” He co-wrote and directed “Getting Grace,” in which he also stars as a mortician. His character’s life is upended by Grace (played by Bethlehem’s Madelyn Dundon), a 16-year-old terminally ill cancer patient who visits his funeral home to find out what will happen to her when she dies. As Roebuck teaches Grace about death, she teaches him lessons about life.
Roebuck said it has been “mind-blowing” to see people moved by the film, at screenings and at film festivals.
“We specifically chose a wide audience to test this film on,” he said. “And it was filled with different religious persuasions. Evangelical Christians. Mormons. Jewish friends. Catholics. Everybody. The film is a story about faith. But we are not dictating what that faith is.
“We’re just reminding you that there’s something greater than this experience here. And as hard as this experience can be, there is something better after it.”
“Getting Grace” was filmed entirely in the Lehigh Valley and features prominent locations such as Monocacy Park, the Sell-Herron Funeral Homes in Allentown and Bethlehem, The Moravian Book Shop, The Burnside Plantation, Pete’s Hot Dog Shop and St. Luke’s Hospital. It was executive produced by the Lehigh Valley brother and sister team of Mike Molewski and Samantha Edwards, as well as Mick Trombley, Zach Tran, Melanie Molewski and Robert “R.J.” Morris.
Tickets for the Lehigh Valley screenings will cost $22, and all proceeds will benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley, the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts, the Pennsylvania Playhouse, Civic Theatre and MunOpCo Music Theatre.
