Burying trades by utilizing the "obligation warehouse" also allows those short to avoid reporting it to FINRA in the bi-monthly report. This is why the short appears to be only 1.2 million shares. I can't tell you how big it is but it is a lot bigger than 1.2 million shares. Go IPIX!!!
