If you search “Uber and law suits” or “Uber and distracted driving” you’ll find they have had numerous law suits filed against them for distracted driving and have come under scrutiny for the use of cell phones by their drivers.
Uber requiring their drivers to employ a distracted driving app is equivalent to Uber having an insurance policy against law suits for distracted driving related accidents. Uber would have done their part; with the liability falling on the driver.
In my opinion it is inevitable that Uber will employ a distracted driving app in their service. Doesn’t mean it will be bsafe Mobile. However, with limited competition, Berman’s fat Rolodex and his deep six degrees of separation in the auto industry and business in general, I like the odds.
Still have no idea what Berman’s Tom Tom tweet was about but thought I’d add “In November 2015, Uber signed a global partnership deal with Dutch satellite navigation company TomTom to provide maps and traffic data for the Uber driver app across 300 cities.”
