Automotive Executive:
Trump 'The Main Person Responsible'
for Growing US Economy < >

Automotive executive Carlos Ghosn praised President Trump's tax reform law, which he said made America "one of the very positive [economic] bright spots on the planet."

Ghosn, chairman of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, said on that as a businessman, he "applaud " the current American economy.

"You need to give this president the merit of being the main person responsible for the economy," he said.

He added that his comments did not come from a political point of view, as he is not an American citizen.

Ghosn was born in Brazil and said he splits his time between France and Japan.

"This very positive event makes us review the perspective for the year 2018," Ghosn said.

Still, he warned that NAFTA negotiations between the U.S., Mexico and Canada may have a positive or negative effect on international business -- especially for automakers.

He agreed that it is time to take another look at the decades-old agreement, but reserved judgment on what kind of effect it will have.

"We are all extremely attentive toward what's going to happen," Ghosn said. "The three countries changed over the last 23 years.
