Turkey has awarded 2,1 GW of wind power capacity in 32 regions
Turkey January 8, 2018

The multi-day tender marathon in Turkey offering an aggregate amount of 2,130 MW of wind power capacity, finished with preliminary licenses issued for 2,110 MW in 32 different regions in the country.
The licenses were issued in the last couple of days of 2017, according to the Turkish Electricity Transmission company (Teias). Successful bids ranged from USD 7.29 per MW to as low as USD 2.87 per MW.

Based on Turkish media reports, on the first day of this tender-marathon, 110 energy firms participated and bids for 430 MW of wind power were collected for 8 regions: Amasya – Samsun (60 MW), Corum – Kastamonu – Sinop (70 MW), Antalya (100 MW), Bitlis – Mus (40 MW), Bolu – Duzce – Sakarya (30 MW), Elazıg (40 MW), Gaziantep – Kilis (40 MW), and Istanbul (50 MW). 13 firms in these 8 regions were awarded pre-licenses for wind energy projects.

On the second day, Turkey awarded pre-licenses for wind energy projects to 13 firms, with a total capacity of 350 MW in 8 regions of Adiyaman (40 MW), Ardahan-Kars (40 MW), Erzincan (50 MW), Malatya (80 MW), Hatay (30 MW), Kahramanmaras –Osmaniye (40 MW), Kocaeli –Yalova (40 MW) and Yozgat (50 MW).

On the third day of bidding, 16 firms were awarded total 590 MW of installed capacity in 7 regions: Agri – Igdir (50 MW), Bartin – Zonguldak –Karabuk (30 MW), Batman – Mardin – Diyarbakir – Sanliurfa (60 MW), Bayburt – Gumushane – Giresun (40 MW), Bursa (110 MW), Erzurum (50 MW), and Karaman – Mersin (250 MW).

According to Anadolou agency, 5 firms jointly won Bursa region, while 4 bidders won Karaman – Mersin 250 MW wind site.

On the final day of the tender marathon held in Ankara, with almost 350 participants, Turkey awarded pre-licenses for wind energy projects with a total capacity of 740 MW to 22 projects in 9 regions. The tender for Canakkale totaled 260 megawatts, followed by 160MW in the region of Balikesir. Afyonkarahisar, Isparta, Burdur-Denizli-Usak, Aydın-Mugla, Konya, Izmir and Manisa capacities were between 30 and 60 MW.

The lowest offer on Thursday was given by German PNE Wind Renewable Energy with USD 2.87/MW for Canakkale province located in the northwestern part of the country. That was also the lowest bid of the whole auction.

Last summer, consortium led by German Siemens won tender for 1 GW wind energy project in Turkey. The consortium composed of Siemens and two Turkish companies, Turkerler and Kalyon, has been awarded the tender for the project worth USD 1.2 billion (EUR 1.12 billion). The consortium has offered the lowest price.

Since 2007, Turkey’s wind energy sector attracted USD 12.3 billion in investments and reached 6.5 GW of wind capacity, according to Turkish Wind Energy Association (TUREB) data.
