If there is a certain situation where the only choice between helping the patient and an end of life situation, an opportunity to help could, regardless of the outcome, be a positive, public, good will effort that brings positive attention to the company and it's efforts to bring lifesaving medications to market.
If the outcome saves a life, it could accelerate the approval process of the drug and present more lifesaving opportunities. Management would have many variables to weigh.
