Re: rodman #8935
We've covered the perils of cadmium in detail a number of times before. My take-away from this was intended to be in the irony (mixed with a tad of medieval levity) of alchemist's mixing concoctions to get from point-A to point-B, yet ending right back at point-A...as conveyed here: "Ironically, the team also discovered that, at one point during this process, the safer, more controllable compounds now employed decompose into the same highly toxic compounds that were used in initial quantum dot production 30 years ago.....the very chemicals we have been trying to avoid for decades.....a fundamental discovery."
*Not being a sorcerer myself, I also thought it worth noting that 'perils' do exist & things can get really out of hand (both at inception & on an ongoing basis) if they don't get it right...as conveyed here: "Alert researchers and companies working on large scale quantum dot syntheses [should be aware] that highly toxic hydrogen selenide and cadmium akyl complexes (arguably the most dangerous chemicals in the world) are still “lurking” as part of the synthesis process."
*All-of-which gives me a deeper appreciation for our alchemist, Dr.Wong & his disciples, providing that they've managed to overcome these (among other) obstacles they've encountered along the way[?]. I'm sorry that my post didn't meet your criteria for being the slightest bit relevant or even slightly entertaining...please feel free to skip-over my boring posts in the future.
