Might be about sex.. not sure
What is the Root of Human Motivation?
I have a feeling this is all going to end up being about either sex or food.
Scientific note. Evolution's way of trying to create the "perfect being"
Humans do the same thing, procreate in the attempt of creating the perfect human being
Reading a couple of articles, one of the bigger reasons is incentive.
Various incentives. Sleep, food, money, sex, recognition, fame...
We want to be recognized or get something out of the stuff that we do.
A big motivator is avoiding death *cough* Voldemort *cough*
Eating----trying to avoid dying by starvation
Humans are motivated by a need to live
Need vs Want
Ceased evolving
The reason we want to survive is so we can produce
EVERYTHING ABOUT SEX ALWAYS
I WANT SANDWICH BECAUSE I WANT SEX
I AM VOLDEMORT I WAND TO HAVE SEX
Humans do things for incentive, but sometimes they also want to increase one's own psychological standing in the universe
We want to become the best version of yourself that you can possibly be, even if we don't know it.
Becoming the "ultimate you"
Not all about reproducing, we have a motivation to try to live, but not just because we want to reproduce
A lot of people don't care about reproducing.
Motivation is what makes you get up in the morning, what makes you want to prove someone wrong.
Motivation is just something or someone holding you to something.
It is about making the world the best you can make it for both yourself and the future generations
It is just to try to make your part of life as nice as you can.
Uncomfortable for the root of human motivation to be completely sexual, or even solely based on evolution
We have built up culture that is all about the development of intellectual assets
Unless we are completely deluding ourselves completely
Is the ROOT motivation cultural?
Does the root of human motivation change based on what culture you are part of?
Is it innate?
Evolution argument is tempting because most, if not all humans have the biological objective to want to reproduce.
We need a common denominator to multiply
Reach your full potential on a daily basis. MASLOW
Self actualization
the root of human motivation is a weird unspecific need to be more than they are
People do it in different ways, they dedicate their lives in different ways to different things
We want to be more than what we are---Possible definition
Trying to be a higher being than what we are, just trying to make ourselves better
Why though?
Is there just one singular root, or are there many, individual ones based on gender, age, personality, culture etc?
Is the answer love?
To make people smile, be accepted, just love of anything specific.
Root of human motivation-unhealthy love of potato chips- Potato...Root... Get it?
It can be both a cultural thing and an innate thing.
that one core thing is to literally live, but then they stem off of that.
Try to stay alive, and then figure out what to do with it after that is secure.
In some cultures, it is focused more on the family, in some it is focused on self
Humans want to be remembered
We fear oblivion
interacting with people and the world to leave marks that people will remember us for.
To gain attention for things that we are doing. To remain in the spotlight for as long as possible
Wanting to leave your mark continues on with wanting to live. That way you can live on in people's memories by leaving proof that you existed. Just another way to continue living
The root of human motivation is the same as that of all living thing, including tigers and cacti--to be a part of making the next generation better than the first
Just can't believe that the root of anything's motivation is to help the next generation. It is too selfless
Not everything just revolves around sex...but it is kind of part of it. It isn't the reason, it just just another step in the process.
I think that we are tethered to the idea of death, just trying to do as much as you can before you die.
The fear of the finite
People confronting limits-taking their own lives
Though I don't want to be selfish, it still kinda happens.
Best way to be okay with one's death
Suicide- How does that work out? Does it cause problems with this theory?
Adaptation vs evolution?
In general, things do not adapt withing their lifetime. Generations don't intentionally try to make stuff better, it is more of accidental
Evolution is not a choice, therefore not necessarily relevant to this conversation. It is just something that happens.
Humans are like the weirdest thing ever.
The root of human motivation is attempting to become more secure *cough* Maslow *cough*
Even if people know that something they do is a lie, it can still provide safety/comfort for them.
People do things because it makes them feel better.
Children do not know the thing about the finite. Therefore it can't be the root because the first, most basic form of humans do not know this
Sometimes suicide comes as a result of the end of motivation. They don't have enough strong ties to the world for them to think that living is still worth it.
People do not make up afterlives for their own comfort
Which is worse, vanity, or self hatred?
