"Demand for ethically produced oil will force compliance.
Many developed societies increasingly place ethical production as a top priority for many things like food and fibre.
BDO sees that already translating into oil and gas and says new technologies will be the enablers.
One of those is the development of nano-sized graphene quantum dots which absorb UV light.
If placed in non-conflict and ethically produced oil they can be configured with very specific spectrums that would fluoresce and be used to trace oil to the well it came from.
"These days, commercial, social and environmental elements are considered, as are political considerations.
"Underpinning all of that are ethical considerations, and they also come into the financial decisions for oil and gas companies."
