Who's Got More Chutzpah: Junior or Sarah Huckabee Sanders?

A showdown for the ages.

I spent a couple of hours outside the room in the House office building in which Donald J. Trump, Jr. was testifying in closed session to the House Intelligence Committee.

Little did I know that I was missing one of the most amazing—and one of the most comical—exercises in chutzpah in the history of the United States Congress.

He refused to answer some of the committee’s questions because, well, you know, that’s dangerous. But it’s the excuse he gave for clamming up that buried the needle on the bullshit meter. From The Washington Post:

Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.) said Wednesday that Trump Jr. told the committee he did speak with his father about the Trump Tower meeting several days later, after emails showing he had accepted the meeting after being offered “dirt” on Clinton were made public.

However, Trump Jr. declined to detail the conversation to the committee, indicating a lawyer had been present and he believed it was subject to attorney-client privilege.

Who knows? Maybe there was a Law & Order episode playing on a TV across the room while Junior and his pops were playing Andy Hardy Goes to Danbury.

If there were, of course, Junior would have learned that this invocation of attorney-client privilege has as much legal weight as a recitation of the Kars 4 Kids jingle. “The privilege,” as Jack McCoy once said, “is not made of taffy.”

But it is prima facie evidence that a) this clan doesn’t recognize any legal authority and b) that whatever happened at that meeting is so incriminating that Junior was willing to risk a pretty obvious contempt of Congress citation by offering up such a bogus excuse.

Unfortunately, Junior held the House Cup for brass balls only for a day. You may have heard that the president* will appear at the opening of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in Jackson.

Congressman John Lewis also was scheduled to appear, but he declined to share a stage with the president*. And this got John Lewis a lecture from SarahHuck about What The Civil Rights Movement Meant.

"We think it’s unfortunate that these members of Congress wouldn’t join the President in honoring the incredible sacrifice civil rights leaders made to right the injustices in our history. The President hopes others will join him in recognizing that the movement was about removing barriers and unifying Americans of all backgrounds.”

The pride of Ouachita Baptist University is presuming to tell John Lewis the real meaning of the sacrifices made by people like…John Lewis?

God, I hope there’s a rabbit down here somewhere.
