Border Patrol If DHS Imposes Obama-Era Policies

The union representing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers is speaking out against President Donald Trump for leaving in place officials from the Obama administration.
The National ICE Council said this week, "ICE officers grudgingly admit that the only president they ever endorsed hasn’t kept his word, and many officers now feel betrayed."
The council said Trump's stance on immigration enforcement was "courageous," but lamented that "all of the Obama managers and leadership" remain, causing "tensions" at the agency between factions.
David Ward, former ICE agent and Border Patrol officer, said on "Fox & Friends" that Trump hasn't betrayed anyone, but his nominee to lead the Department of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen, could present a major problem.
Steve Doocy noted that Nielsen doesn't have significant immigration experience, she supported Jeb Bush over Trump, and she has made comments that she opposes a border wall.
"If she imposes the policy that we've had in the previous eight years, you're going to see a mass exodus of Border Patrol agents and ICE agents leaving the agency," Ward said. "They are hired to do a job that Congress mandated, and we have these politicians - particularly these attorneys - taking over these agencies and not allowing these guys to do their jobs."
He pointed to former President Obama's Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which is not part of U.S. immigration law.
"We're looking at a new Department of Homeland Security secretary that is very similar to Jeh Johnson and his opinions," Ward said. "The Obama administration sycophants are still within the administration. They haven't been weeded out. The swamp has not been drained, and it's going to take a while to do it."
